Many pollutants in the water are odorless and colorless, which plays in favor of the program of modernity and the rhetoric of progress that makes the effort to invisibilize the pervasive effects and byproducts of its doings. Also, it is similarly pernicious, as explains Timothy Morton, to over aestheticize the idea of nature by relegating it to the background.
